"Stop Doubting and Believe" - fine art print

"So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”  But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”  Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”  John 20: 25-27

~

The painting before us captures an intimate and transformational moment between Jesus and His disciple, Thomas. It paints a vivid image of the biblical account from John 20:24-29, where Thomas, also known as "Doubting Thomas", demanded tangible proof of Jesus' resurrection.

In the heart of the artwork, we see two hands—Jesus' hand extending forward, bearing the scars from the crucifixion, and Thomas' hand reaching out tentatively, fingertips almost touching the wound. The play of light in the artwork emphasizes the wounds, illuminating the sacrifice and the love it represents. In the background, a Monarch butterfly is near, symbolizing resurrection, hope, and new life.
