About Mindi Oaten Art

Fine art by Mindi Oaten featuring Jesus and nature-inspired paintings

Greetings and welcome!

I’m an artist with a heart to reveal beauty through brushstrokes—bringing scripture to life on canvas. Working primarily in acrylics, I create visual expressions of what I sense the Lord speaking, often painting in real time during worship and ministry gatherings. I hold a BFA in Studio Drawing from Western Washington University, where I graduated magna cum laude.

My life flows in two rhythms. At home, I’m a wife, a mother of three boys, and an artist who creates from a place of stillness and devotion. It’s in the quiet moments that I dream, pray, and paint—where inspiration flows and the Spirit leads. My personal collections are birthed from these times, where the Word of God meets color, texture, and story.

The other rhythm is rooted in ministry. That part of my journey began in 2015 with Time to Revive, a Dallas-based ministry, where I was first invited to paint live during worship and special events. It was there that I discovered the power of creating in the moment, led by the Spirit. Since then, I’ve continued to paint in ministry settings—on stage during worship nights, conferences, and gatherings—always with the same prayer: that each brushstroke would be an invitation for others to encounter His presence.

In recent years, I’ve also stepped into more speaking opportunities, sharing what it means to walk as a prophetic artist and the journey of painting through the life of Jesus. It’s been a sacred process of transformation—both on the canvas and within my own heart. My desire is to stir others to behold the beauty of God’s Word and to encourage fellow creatives to use their gifts to glorify Him.

(If you’re curious about what I mean by prophetic painting, you can learn more here.)

I truly believe we are all called to bring light through whatever we’ve been entrusted with. Whether it’s a canvas, a conversation, or a quiet act of kindness, each of us has something to offer. My hope is that through my art, people would feel encouraged, uplifted, and drawn closer to the heart of God.

Mindi Oaten and her family in a field

Above is my family, and this is my story…

From a young age, I was drawn to create. I spent countless hours tucked away in my room with a pencil or paintbrush in hand—losing myself in color, shape, and imagination. There was always a deep peace that came over me in the act of making something from nothing. That love for art led me to pursue formal training, and I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Western Washington University, focusing on drawing and mixed media. My studies encouraged exploration, and I often found expression through charcoal, texture, and layered experimentation.

But after graduation, I faced the all-too-common question: “What now?” I didn’t yet have the confidence to imagine myself as a full-time artist. So I returned home to Calgary, Alberta, where I took a job at a furniture store while I searched for direction. Unexpectedly, that job opened the door to a career in interior design—a path that allowed me to express creativity in a different way. From 2001 to 2011, I worked with clients to transform their spaces into something meaningful and beautiful.

During that time, life was full—I married the love of my life and became a mother to three amazing boys. Eventually, the pull of home grew stronger than the pace of work, and I chose to step away from my career to focus on raising our sons. It was a precious, demanding season that required laying many things down, including my art.

Then, in July of 2013, something shifted.

I had a vivid dream—one that felt more like a divine encounter than just a passing image of the night. In the dream, I stood on a stage before an easel, painting in hues of purple, grounded by a stunning red velvet floor beneath my feet. There was a sense of joy and purpose that radiated through me. When I woke, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it meant something. I shared it with my husband, unsure of what it all meant—but deeply aware that it was time to return to what I had set aside for so long.

Not long after, a friend asked if I would teach a small art class for her daughter. I agreed—but first, I had to find my old art supplies, untouched for over a decade. I whispered a prayer for help… and instantly, I saw it in my mind’s eye: my art case, dusty and forgotten, buried in a corner of the garage. The vision was so specific that I walked straight to it. With trembling hands, I opened the latches—and as I did, something stirred within me.

Inside the case was a photograph I had tucked away during my university years—an image of Jesus in prayer. In that quiet moment, I heard Him speak: “I’ve been in here waiting for you.” I dropped to my knees, tears streaming down my face. I had walked away from the gift He placed in me, but He had never left. He had been waiting all along.

That moment marked a turning point I will never forget.

From then on, I began painting again—but this time, not for myself alone. I began creating with Jesus, dedicating every brushstroke to Him. That encounter rekindled a fire within me—a calling I had nearly forgotten—and it launched me into a journey I could never have imagined.

March 2014

My husband and I were hungry to go deeper in our walk with the Lord. We attended a weekend conference in Calgary, not expecting anything more than a fresh word of encouragement. But God had more in store. In a room full of people, I was called out for prayer—and as I stepped forward, I encountered the tangible power of the Holy Spirit in a way I had never known before. As John and Carol Arnott prayed over me, I felt a deep awakening stir in my spirit. Something shifted. It was a defining moment where spiritual gifts were imparted, and the Lord began to stir the waters of destiny within me.

November 2014

Later that year, a friend and leader, Richie Seltzer, shared a prophetic word that stopped me in my tracks. He spoke of the creative gift within me—that I would be a prophetic painter who would travel, sharing my art on stages across the world. His words echoed the very dream I had earlier that year, bringing it vividly back to life. Richie encouraged me to take a bold step and paint live for the first time at a conference hosted by our church. Fear tried to hold me back, but I knew the Lord was calling. Trusting the Holy Spirit, I stepped forward in obedience. What unfolded was my first live prophetic painting—an experience filled with awe, transformation, and the sweet presence of God.

January 2015

Just a few months later, my cousin Kyle Martin—founder and CEO of Time to Revive—sent me an unexpected message. Revival had broken out in Indiana, and he felt strongly that I was meant to come and paint prophetically during the worship gatherings. I had only done this twice before. The invitation took me by surprise, yet it echoed the very words spoken over me not long before. A door had opened, and all I needed to do was say yes. I stepped through—and that moment marked the beginning of my journey with Time to Revive, where I served as a contract artist, traveling and painting from 2015 through 2020. It was a season of deep growth, joy, and surrender. My prayer then, as it is now, has always been simple: that my art would be a vessel through which someone might encounter the love of Jesus.

November 2017 – November 2019

Over the next two years, Time to Revive entered a focused season of studying the entire Bible—book by book. As Kyle taught and unpacked the Word, I had the honor of painting every book of the Bible. I completed a prophetic piece for each of the 66 books of the Word. It was an extraordinary journey—one that deepened my love for scripture and revealed the incredible ways God can speak through visual expression.

January 2020

At the start of 2020, I sensed a strong prompting from the Lord: It’s time to come home and root yourself in the studio. Without knowing what was coming in the world, God was preparing me for the shift. I stepped away from traveling with Time to Revive and turned my focus toward creating from my home studio. It was a divine reset—one that opened the door for new projects, deeper creativity, and a renewed sense of purpose.

February – April 2021

During a time of prayer for Canada, I received a vision of radiant, multicolored angels descending from heaven, each carrying fresh mantles for new assignments. That moment birthed “Garments of Praise: Mantled to Reign”—what became known as The Rainbow Collection. It carried a call to “Arise and Shine”—to take up the authority we’ve been given as sons and daughters of the King. I believe this collection was a prophetic call to the Bride of Christ: to be clothed in His glory, to rise in purity and purpose, and to shine until He comes again.

2021 – July 2025

These past few years were a deeply creative season spent in my home studio near Calgary, Alberta. It was a time marked by growth, refinement, and beauty in the quiet. From that space, I completed commissions, collaborated on meaningful projects, and painted through the life of Jesus—a collection that has shaped me in profound ways.

July 2025 – A New Season

Through a series of divine invitations, timely connections, and unmistakable signs, our family began to sense a stirring. A shift was coming. For a while, we quietly carried the sense that God might one day move us to the United States—and in His perfect timing, the doors began to open. With so much clarity and confirmation, we knew: it was time.

With both excitement and grief, we said goodbye to all we had known, packed up our home, and stepped into a new land. Now planted in a new country, we look ahead with open hands and expectant hearts, ready for whatever God has in store. A new chapter is beginning—one of faith, purpose, and fresh assignments.

I believe we’re standing on the edge of something powerful for the creative community. God is awakening artists, musicians, writers, and makers to carry His glory in new and compelling ways. I’m humbled to be a part of that unfolding story.

Each morning, I’m grateful to rise and hear His voice. Life is never ordinary when you walk with the Spirit. Each of us carries a divine calling—a design carefully woven by the hands of a loving Creator. When we surrender to Jesus, He leads us into more than we could ask or imagine. His ways are higher, His timing perfect.

Trust Him. Follow His voice. Say yes.

The story continues to unfold…

Life with God is always an adventure.
