1, 2 & 3 John | Perfect Love, Perfect Truth & Perfect Example
Mindi's Reflection
1 John portrays Christ as the way, the truth and the life. Jesus walked with man in the flesh; he walked in the light of life, as the light of the world. We also walk in the light when walking with Him. God exudes perfect love and sent his Son to die for us, as perfect love. These two themes were central in this painting. Walking in light ties all three books of John together in a triptych.
2 John focuses on walking in perfect truth as we walk with Christ. Truth and love are inseparable, both are actions when God’s word is in our hearts and shown as actions in love. God’s Word is our source of truth and God’s love is shown by Jesus’ finished work on the cross.
The central theme in 3 John was Christ being our perfect example in fellowship with each other. John wanted to make sure those walking in truth of the gospel were welcomed in, offering hospitality. I chose to paint the elements of communion, although not directly mentioned in the book, it is our example of remembrance of the body and blood that was broken and poured out for us, Jesus’ perfect example of his sacrifice for our salvation. In fellowship we partake in his Holy Communion.
