1 & 2 Samuel | The Anointed One & The Eternal Throne
Mindi's Reflection
The books of Samuel begin the transition of Israel from a theocracy to a monarchy. The paintings symbolically reflect three key figures: Samuel the prophet, Saul the failed king, and David the great king.
For the second book / half of the combined painting, I chose to focus on David’s Reign, the eternal kingdom and lineage of the Messianic promise. When the people wanted a human king and a monarchy to rule them, God granted their request. However, Saul ended up being a king who didn’t put God in the centre of his reign and life. When he died, David became king, although flawed; he had a repented heart and put God’s way first in his reign. He was a man after God’s own heart.
