Matthew begins the New Testament books; I felt it was important to connect the Garden in Genesis, at the very beginning, to the arrival of Jesus into the world. The promised seed is now a full-grown tree, with the manger at the top representing the birth of the promised Messiah. He came in the most humble of circumstances, in a stable, to reign as King. All the Old Testament prophecies pointed to this moment, the long awaited Messiah, who came to fulfil prophecy and bring the Kingdom of God to earth.
