The Story Behind the Work

About the Artwork

Shop Water to Wine as a fine art canvas print or ready-to-hang stretched canvas. Each piece is printed to order by Mindi Oaten Art.

Water to Wine is a Scripture-inspired Christian painting depicting Jesus’ first miracle at the Wedding at Cana, when He turned water into wine in John 2.

About the Painting

"His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” John 2: 5-8

In the picturesque village of Cana, a joyous celebration was in full swing. The air was scented with the sweet embrace of blooming blossoms, as if nature herself paid homage to the extraordinary event unfolding within the walls of a beautiful wedding feast.

It was here that the transformative journey of Jesus, the miracle-worker, began in all its radiant glory. Amidst the laughter, music, and the clinking of goblets, the hosts of the wedding were met with an unexpected dilemma: the wine, a symbol of abundance and joy, had run dry. The prospect of such embarrassment loomed heavy in the air.

In the midst of the commotion, Mary, the wise and loving mother of Jesus, approached her son with deep insight into his extraordinary potential. She whispered to him, "They have no wine." With those words, she set in motion the divine plan, urging him to reveal his power and purpose.

Jesus gazed upon the stone jars, typically used for ceremonial washing. He instructed the servants to fill those very vessels with water. They obeyed, their actions embodying the timeless wisdom in Mary's gentle exhortation: "Do what he tells you." The water-filled jars, vessels set apart for ceremonial washing, stood ready. Then, as if a sacred decree, the miracle unfurled. Jesus transformed that ordinary water into wine of unparalleled quality.

This miracle of water turned to wine was a foreshadowing of the ultimate journey that lay ahead for Jesus, a journey to the cross. Just as the water transformed into wine, symbolizing the extraordinary nature of his ministry, so too would he, through his ultimate sacrifice, renew the ordinary human heart through His grace. His blood, poured out on the cross, would cleanse the world of sin, bringing forgiveness and new life.

Artwork Care & Materials

Fine art canvas prints

Mindi’s fine art canvas prints are reproductions of her original paintings printed on artist-quality canvas. Sizes vary by artwork, from smaller pieces to larger statement sizes. Unless the product option specifically says Stretched Canvas Print, canvas prints are shipped unstretched.

Unstretched canvas prints can be framed, mounted, or professionally stretched by your local framer. Because each artwork has its own proportions, available sizes vary; order from the size and format shown on the individual product page.

Need help choosing a size or format? Contact Mindi Oaten Art or visit the Frequently Asked Questions.

Stretched canvas prints

A Stretched Canvas Print is a fine art canvas print stretched over an internal support frame, creating a ready-to-display presentation without first visiting a framer. It can be hung as-is or placed inside a decorative outer frame.

Stretched canvas sizes vary by artwork. If the size you need is not listed, contact the studio to ask whether a custom stretched size is available.

Displaying, handling & long-term care

Displaying: keep artwork indoors and away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive moisture, smoke, and rapid temperature changes.

Handling: use clean, dry hands and hold prints or originals by the edges whenever possible. Support larger pieces evenly with two hands.

Cleaning: use only a soft, dry cloth or clean artist’s brush. Do not apply water, glass cleaner, oils, sprays, or household cleaners directly to printed or painted surfaces.

Framing: archival, acid-free materials and UV-protective glazing are recommended for works on paper and can also help protect fine art prints. Canvas works should be framed or stretched appropriately for the specific piece.
