The Story Behind the Work
Shop Today this Scripture is Fulfilled as a fine art canvas print or ready-to-hang stretched canvas. Each piece is printed to order by Mindi Oaten Art.
Today this Scripture is Fulfilled is a Scripture painting drawn from Luke 4:16–21, entering the synagogue at Nazareth as Jesus reads Isaiah and declares the prophecy fulfilled.
"He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4: 16-21
The fulfillment of Isaiah 61 by Jesus represents a deeply transformative moment in history, a divine intersection where prophecy and purpose meet. This pivotal event, as described in the New Testament, marks Jesus's declaration of His mission and divinity, echoing the words of Isaiah, the prophet. In this remarkable instance, Jesus reads from the scroll of Isaiah in the synagogue and declares, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." This statement is an assertion of His role as the Messiah, the anointed one sent by God. It signifies the commencement of a new era of grace, healing, and redemption—a moment where the long-awaited promises of God begin to unfold in the life and ministry of Jesus. The importance of this moment lies in its revelation of Jesus as the fulfillment of ancient prophecy, bridging the gap between the Old and the New Testaments.
