The Story Behind the Work
Shop Casting out Darkness as a fine art canvas print or ready-to-hang stretched canvas. Each piece is printed to order by Mindi Oaten Art.
Inspired by Matthew 8:16, Casting out Darkness reflects the authority of Jesus as He drives back darkness and brings healing and freedom.
"When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill." Matthew 8:16 "And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was." Mark 1:34
This painting captures an intense spiritual moment, symbolizing the divine intervention of Jesus as He casts out the forces of darkness and ushers in the radiant kingdom of God. The swirling, ominous blackish-grey represents the chaos and evil of demonic forces, yet it's being repelled by the outstretched hand, which emanates divinity, purity, and authority. The lone butterfly, vibrant and delicate, serves as a witness to the transformative power of Christ's love, echoing the idea that through Him, the old is gone and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).
This depiction resonates with the scripture where Jesus, filled with unparalleled authority and compassion, sets the captives free from oppression. The overall composition is a vivid portrayal of the eternal battle between good and evil, showcasing that with Christ, the kingdom of God prevails, pushing back the shadows and illuminating the world with hope, love, and redemption.
"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

A Stretched Canvas Print is a fine art canvas print stretched over an internal support frame, creating a ready-to-display presentation without first visiting a framer. It can be hung as-is or placed inside a decorative outer frame.
Stretched canvas sizes vary by artwork. If the size you need is not listed, contact the studio to ask whether a custom stretched size is available.
Mindi Oaten Art may be able to create an approved custom fine art canvas print in a size not listed on the product page. Custom print orders are quoted individually based on the artwork, final dimensions, proportions, and finishing requirements.
Custom sizes must respect the proportions of the original painting, and some dimensions may require cropping. The studio will confirm what works visually before the order is finalized.
