Knee Deep, the Glory River: An Invitation to Go Deeper with God

Knee Deep, the Glory River by Mindi Oaten, showing a robed figure standing knee-deep in turquoise water.

From the Collectors Club archive.

Before you is an invitation — not merely to observe the river, but to enter it.

Knee Deep, the Glory River was inspired by Ezekiel 47, where the prophet is led step by step into waters flowing from the temple. The farther he goes, the deeper the river becomes.

“Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees.” — Ezekiel 47:4

When the water reaches your knees

There is something important about this place in the river. You are no longer standing as securely as before. The current has more strength. Every step asks for greater trust.

Ankle deep. Knee deep. Deeper still.

This painting reflects that moment when following God begins to require more surrender than observation. His presence becomes weightier, His invitation more costly, and yet the river is full of life.

The weight of glory

As the waters deepen, they carry greater power and resistance. Yet the weight is not meant to crush us. It is the weight of His presence — calling us into deeper trust, deeper communion, and deeper dependence.

The hand trailing through the water speaks of contact with the living flow of God: His mercy, healing, power, and peace moving through the earth.

The farther in we go, the less we can rely on our own footing.

Prayers carried by the river

The leaves floating upon the water carry another layer of meaning. They represent prayers — for healing, for loved ones, for the land, and for the nations.

There are prayers we hold tightly, and there are prayers we eventually learn to release into the current of God’s care.

What we cannot carry on our own, He can carry farther than we can see.

Where is the Spirit inviting you deeper?

Knee Deep, the Glory River is an invitation to pause and listen.

Where is the Spirit asking you to trust Him beyond the place where you still feel steady?

The river still flows from His presence, bringing life wherever it goes. Even when the waters deepen, His light continues to lead forward.

Step in.

Trust Him deeper.
