"Compassion" | Jonah - 'Garden of Grace' mini collection - fine art print
“Then the Lord God provided a leafy plant and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the plant.” (4:6)
I read an article that suggested the plant that may have been provided from God to shade Jonah could possibly be a Castor Oil Plant.
It represents God’s love and compassion to provide for Jonah, even after he complained and was angry about God’s compassion to save him. A reminder that God cares for us and provides what we need in times of distress. God uses the plant as a parallel for his compassion for Nineveh and why he wanted Jonah to go warn the people to repent, to ultimately save them.
