Part of my Beauty for Ashes collection, Awakened Life is an original mixed media artwork inspired by the promise of Isaiah 61:3—that God exchanges ashes for beauty and breathes new life into places that once seemed dormant.
There are seasons when life feels buried beneath sorrow, waiting in silence for the warmth of hope to return. Like tulips emerging after a long winter, God’s voice awakens what has rested beneath the surface. His call brings life where there was once weariness, inviting hearts to rise again with renewed purpose and hope.
Created with watercolor, charcoal, and genuine gold leaf, each material carries intentional symbolism. The charcoal represents ashes, refining, and seasons of hardship. The watercolor reflects surrender, tenderness, and the quiet work of the Holy Spirit. The gold leaf speaks of redemption, reminding us that God surrounds every surrendered life with His beauty, restoring dignity, hope, and purpose.
The unfinished circle of gold surrounding the tulips symbolizes God’s eternal presence and His ongoing work of restoration. Just as spring faithfully follows winter, His promises remain steadfast. He continues to awaken what seemed forgotten, calling new life from places that once appeared barren.
Awakened Life is the sixth painting in the Beauty for Ashes series, where each flower reflects a unique expression of God’s redeeming work. Every story unfolds differently, yet each one proclaims the same hope: nothing surrendered to Christ is ever wasted. His voice still calls life from the ashes.
May this artwork remind you that God’s timing is never late. Even after the longest winters, He faithfully awakens dormant dreams, restores weary hearts, and breathes fresh life into every season surrendered to Him.
