Part of my Beauty for Ashes collection, Simple Faith is an original mixed media artwork inspired by the promise of Isaiah 61:3—that God exchanges ashes for beauty and restores hearts to trust Him once again.
There are seasons when faith feels complicated by disappointment, unanswered questions, or prolonged waiting. Yet as God restores our hearts, He often brings us back to something beautifully simple—not a faith built on having every answer, but on knowing the One who is faithful. Like humble daisies blooming freely in open fields, faith quietly flourishes where trust has taken root.
Created with watercolor, charcoal, and genuine gold leaf, each material carries intentional symbolism. The charcoal represents ashes, refining, and the seasons that have tested our faith. The watercolor reflects surrender, dependence, and the gentle work of the Holy Spirit. The gold leaf speaks of redemption, reminding us that God faithfully restores beauty, purpose, and hope to every life entrusted to Him.
The unfinished circle of gold surrounding the flowers symbolizes God’s eternal presence and His ongoing work of restoration. Through every season, He gently strips away fear, striving, and self-reliance, inviting us into the quiet confidence of childlike faith.
Simple Faith is the ninth painting in the Beauty for Ashes series, where each flower reflects a unique expression of God’s redeeming work. Every journey is different, yet each one reveals the same enduring truth: nothing surrendered to Christ is ever wasted. He faithfully restores our hearts until we are able to trust Him again with open hands.
May this artwork remind you that faith does not need to be complicated to be strong. Sometimes the deepest faith is found in the simple decision to trust God one day at a time, believing that the One who began a good work will be faithful to complete it.
