A Line Drawn is Christian Bible art inspired by John 8 and the moment Jesus writes in the sand, meeting accusation with truth, mercy, and a call to transformation.
"The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” (John 8: 3-7)
In the painting, there is a moving representation of John 8:1-11, where Jesus confronts the hypocrisy of the religious leaders. The scene focuses on the deliberate hand of Jesus as it etches into the ground. As per the scripture, this moment occurs when the scribes and Pharisees present a woman accused of adultery before Jesus, demanding to know whether she should be stoned according to the Law of Moses. Jesus responds not with hasty judgment, but by stooping down to write with his finger in the sand, pausing the agitated atmosphere with a silent but powerful act.
One cannot help but notice the sole butterfly in the image, its wings open in full splendor next to a cold, hard stone. The butterfly, an emblem of transformation and new life, contrasts starkly with the stone, an instrument of death and judgment. This juxtaposition echoes the deep message of the narrative: the transformation of the heart versus the hardness of hearts bent on condemnation.
The painting invites contemplation of the human condition, suggesting that within each person there lies the potential for both judgment and grace. The religious leaders are ready to condemn, their hearts as unyielding as the stone, yet Jesus encourages a path of mercy. He prompts those without sin to cast the first stone, and one by one, they leave, recognizing their own failings.
This image of Jesus writing in the dust also serves as a reminder that He came not to condemn, but to offer a chance for change and renewal, much like the butterfly. In the presence of Jesus, who embodies forgiveness and life, we are called to lay down our stones of judgment, to acknowledge our shared sinfulness, and to embrace the opportunity for transformation that He offers.

A Stretched Canvas Print is a fine art canvas print stretched over an internal support frame, creating a ready-to-display presentation without first visiting a framer. It can be hung as-is or placed inside a decorative outer frame.
Stretched canvas sizes vary by artwork. If the size you need is not listed, contact the studio to ask whether a custom stretched size is available.
Mindi Oaten Art may be able to create an approved custom fine art canvas print in a size not listed on the product page. Custom print orders are quoted individually based on the artwork, final dimensions, proportions, and finishing requirements.
Custom sizes must respect the proportions of the original painting, and some dimensions may require cropping. The studio will confirm what works visually before the order is finalized.

Displaying: keep artwork indoors and away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive moisture, smoke, and rapid temperature changes.
Handling: use clean, dry hands and hold prints or originals by the edges whenever possible. Support larger pieces evenly with two hands.
Cleaning: use only a soft, dry cloth or clean artist’s brush. Do not apply water, glass cleaner, oils, sprays, or household cleaners directly to printed or painted surfaces.
Framing: archival, acid-free materials and UV-protective glazing are recommended for works on paper and can also help protect fine art prints. Canvas works should be framed or stretched appropriately for the specific piece.
