"His Presence" - fine art print
Painted live during worship @ Ruach Church, Calgary, AB
His Presence is a representation of the powerful and transformative presence of Jesus within the Church. In this artwork, Jesus’ hand extends from a radiant cloud, symbolizing the cloud of His presence as described in Exodus, when God’s glory filled the tabernacle. The fire within the cloud echoes the biblical imagery of God’s purifying and guiding presence, such as the pillar of cloud and fire that led the Israelites through the wilderness.
Flowing from Him is a crystal-clear river, which signifies the living waters that Jesus offers to cleanse and renew the Church. The living waters of His Spirit. This river also references the river of life described in Revelation 22:1-2, which flows from the throne of God. Along this river, we see leaves, which symbolize the healing of the nations, alluding to Revelation 22:2: “The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” The flowing river is His Holy Spirit, cleansing and renewing, bringing revival and transformation.
The cathedral window behind Him is an architectural feature representing the light of prophetic words entering the Church, reminiscent of how God’s word illuminates the hearts of His people. The structure evokes a sacred space where divine revelation is received and transformation occurs. However, the painting also carries a deeper message: just as Jesus’ hand invades the church in this image, His presence must invade our spaces and fill every aspect of our worship and lives. The old architecture symbolizes the traditions and man-made structures that, while beautiful, are lifeless without the infilling of His Holy Spirit.
Jesus desires to bring new life to these structures, just as His presence brought life to the tabernacle. The crystal river, flowing and overflowing, speaks of the Holy Spirit’s outpouring that brings renewal, cleansing, and healing. His presence is not limited to a building but is meant to overflow, reaching individuals and churches alike. For we, in the New Covenant, are His temple (1 Corinthians 3:16), and He calls for an awakening in both our churches and individual lives. The traditions of men, the systems we’ve built, and even the ways we approach worship must come alive with His presence and glory, filling and overflowing out of the space, transforming what is man-made into something vibrant and filled with the life of His Spirit.
Jesus is calling for His presence to fill every area—the physical church, the structures we’ve created, and most importantly, the hearts of His people. This is the promise of His Holy Spirit: to fill, to renew, to heal, and to bring life. We are transformed in His presence.
