“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (15:5)
The grapes and vine branch are the obvious images representing this final statement. This is speaking about our life after we are saved. We are not automatically fruitful, we must abide and yield to the Lord and respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to bear much fruit. Without him, we can do nothing of spiritual value. We will be save, but not producing the fruit of the Kingdom in our lives. It’s not about our works, the Lord is more interested in the motives of our hearts.
