The act of washing feet, laden with the dust and grime of ancient roads, was customarily done by servants. But that evening, Jesus, the one whom the heavens cannot contain, poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel wrapped around Him (John 13:4-5). It was a vivid, symbolic representation of His mission on earth: to cleanse humanity from the filth of sin.
